Starting Your Adventure: Pallet Town and Beyond
Our Pokemon FireRed adventure begins in the peaceful Pallet Town. This is where your journey starts, with Professor Oak introducing you to the wonderful world of Pokémon and allowing you to choose your first partner. Before you even think about battling, you'll need to create a profile and select your starter Pokemon. You're faced with a big decision right from the jump, choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. Bulbasaur is a Grass/Poison type, strong against Water and Rock types but weak against Fire and Flying. Charmander, a Fire type, is your answer to Grass and Bug types. Finally, Squirtle is a Water type, fantastic against Fire and Rock types. Your choice here will influence your entire playthrough, so consider your play style when making your decision. After choosing your starter, your rival, a mischievous and competitive trainer, will choose the Pokémon that’s strong against yours. Make sure to learn about the different types of Pokemon, as this will help you beat the game, and level up your Pokemon. This will be the first of many battles you'll have with him throughout the game, so get ready to face him. Once you've chosen your Pokémon, leave your house and head to Professor Oak's lab. After a brief chat, you’ll be thrust into your first battle against your rival! This is a simple battle designed to introduce you to the mechanics. The game will guide you through battling if you are new to the series. After winning, you'll be tasked with delivering Oak's Parcel to Professor Oak's lab. This is your first real task and it's essential for progressing. Make sure to find your way back to Pallet Town, and you should meet your rival again. He will try to battle you, so be prepared! Once you're done, head to Route 1 and start training your Pokémon. Catching a few extra Pokémon to expand your team early on is a great idea to see what works for you. Take your time, explore the tall grass, and get ready for your first gym.
After you've received the parcel from Professor Oak, and after you have fought your rival, it's time to journey towards Viridian City. You will have to go through Route 1, the first route of the game. On this route, you can find a few wild Pokémon like Pidgey and Rattata. These are great early-game Pokémon to add to your team, or to train against in order to level up your starter. Once you arrive at Viridian City, you can find the Poke Mart and the Gym. At the Mart, you can purchase useful items, such as Poke Balls and Potions. You'll need Poke Balls to catch more Pokémon and Potions to heal your Pokémon after battles. Make sure to buy a few of each to make sure you have enough. The Gym in Viridian City is currently closed, but you can explore the city to find various NPCs who will give you tips and helpful items. Before you can progress, you have to go back to Pallet Town to grab some items that you need for your adventure. Now is the perfect time to visit Route 2, located to the north of Viridian City. Here, you'll encounter trainers and find some items. Route 2 leads to Viridian Forest, and this is where you can find your first Bug-type Pokémon! This is a great place to level up your Pokémon and get ready for your first gym battle. Going to Route 22, located to the west of Viridian City, allows you to find your rival again! This will be your second encounter with him. After this, you should be ready to head to Pewter City, and face your first gym. Be prepared, and make sure your Pokemon are ready.
Conquering Gyms: Pewter City to Celadon City
Welcome to Pewter City! It's time to take on your first Gym challenge. This will really help you understand the game mechanics. The Pewter City Gym is led by Brock, a Rock-type specialist. His Pokémon, Geodude and Onix, are strong against Fire and Flying types. However, they are vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Fighting-type attacks. Before you challenge Brock, it's highly recommended that you level up your starter Pokemon and catch a few more along the way. Your rival will be in the city, so be prepared to battle him. Once you think you’re ready, head to the Gym and begin the battle! After beating Brock, you'll earn the Boulder Badge and receive TM39 (Rock Tomb). After winning this battle, you'll move on to Route 3, located to the north of Pewter City. Here you'll find trainers and items. Make sure to battle every trainer to level up and improve. Once you're ready, head to the east, and you'll arrive at Mt. Moon. This is where you can find Zubat, a Flying and Poison-type Pokémon. This will be another great opportunity to level up your Pokémon. As you travel through Mt. Moon, you'll encounter Team Rocket, a nefarious organization trying to steal valuable Pokémon. You'll have to battle them to stop them! This will be the first time you battle against Team Rocket, but not the last. After defeating them, head to the end of Mt. Moon and battle two Team Rocket Grunts for a Moon Stone! This item can be used to evolve some of your Pokémon. It's an important item to find, so make sure you don't miss it. Once you're out of the mountains, you'll come out to Route 4. Take the route to Cerulean City. There is a Pokemon Center, and a Gym here. Make sure to heal your Pokémon before taking on the Gym! The Cerulean City Gym is led by Misty, a Water-type specialist. Her Pokémon, Staryu and Starmie, are weak against Electric and Grass types. This is the second gym, so you will need to prepare to take on her. After defeating Misty, you'll earn the Cascade Badge and receive TM03 (Water Pulse). This will let you use the HM Waterfall later in the game. You'll need to go to Route 5 to the north of Cerulean City. Here you'll find a few trainers and items. You should now head to Saffron City and Vermilion City. There are trainers along the way, so be ready. The Vermilion City Gym is led by Lt. Surge, an Electric-type specialist. His Pokémon are weak against Ground types. This is your third gym badge, and it is another one you have to prepare for. After defeating Lt. Surge, you'll earn the Thunder Badge and receive TM25 (Thunderbolt). This is a very powerful move, so make sure to take advantage of it. Now, it is time to move on to Saffron City. But, before you do, you must go to Cerulean City. In Cerulean City, you can go to the house north of the gym. Inside, you can find a Team Rocket Grunt, so be ready to battle him! Once you do, head to Route 6 and take on the trainers along the way. In Saffron City, you should go to the Silph Co. building and battle Team Rocket. You'll have to battle throughout the building. This is where you will meet your rival again, and he will battle you. After winning this battle, you'll get a Lapras, an Ice and Water type Pokemon. In Saffron City, you can also take on the Fighting-type gym. This gym will give you a pass to the next gym, which is Celadon City.
Facing the Elite Four: The Road to Victory
Once you’ve beaten all the Gyms, it is time to begin the final chapter. Before you head to the Elite Four, make sure you take some time to strengthen your team. Catch Pokémon to help you, and get them to level 60 or higher. You should stock up on items such as Potions, Revives, and Full Restores. Make sure your team is diverse. The Elite Four have a variety of types, so having a team with varied moves is essential. You must head to Victory Road. Victory Road is a difficult dungeon with strong trainers and wild Pokémon. Make sure to train your team. Now, it's time to head to Indigo Plateau, home of the Elite Four. You must defeat each member of the Elite Four to become the Champion. Each member has their own team of strong Pokémon, so you must use all of your skills and strategies to defeat them. After defeating the Elite Four, you will face the Champion. This is the final battle. Once you beat the Champion, you have finally won the game and will be able to join the Hall of Fame. After becoming Champion, you'll unlock the post-game content, including exploring new areas and capturing legendary Pokémon. Congratulations, trainer! You are now a Pokémon Master!
